Breaking Into eBay Niches

With over 160 million active users across the globe, eBay is a brilliant market for sellers to break into. But, with 160 million active buyers comes a lot of sellers too, and eBay has over 25 million of them who, between them, have over 1 billion items for sale.
Although these figures are overwhelming, and you may think it is impossible to break into eBay niche markets, it is still doable with a little (or a lot) of hard work, dedication and effort.
If you are hoping to jump on eBay and make serious cash right away, then you need to understand that this probably isn’t going to happen. If you are willing to put in some effort and be patient, though, then it is possible. You won’t make money unless you have the right product though and are willing to market it properly.
eBay’s most profitable products are sold in niche markets which have little-to-no other competitors. So, how do you break into these?

Start in a lower-demand niche market

Basic economics dictates that the more in-demand a product is, the more sellers there will be competing to sell it.
If you are looking to break into the eBay market and start to turn a profit by selling laptops, for example, then you are going to be competing with millions of other listings. Plus, you are competing with sellers who are able to offer reduced price, so you probably won’t have much luck.
When finding a niche, you want to find something where there is some demand for it, but not so much that you are going to have to drive down prices in-order to be competitive.

Play to your strengths and expertise

If you’ve got a lot of existing knowledge and expertise surrounding the product you are wanting to sell, it will make things a lot easier for you. Although it’s not essential to have a burning passion for what you are selling, it certainly does make you stand out.
If you are operating in a high-niche market, experience and knowledge is much more relevant as you are more likely to come across serious collectors who may want to know advanced things about your product.
Plus, by having market knowledge, you know where to source your product from for the best rates and be able to make a convincing and effective product description.

Focus on what makes you unique

You need to establish a unique selling point which will draw in customers and focus on this in your listings. What do you offer which your competitors don’t?
Try to make your niche as unique as possible, allowing you to specialize and earn as much profit as possible whilst keeping competition minimal.
