TOKYO (Thomson Financial) - Some 44 percent of Japanese voters want to see the dissolution of the lower house for a general election by the end of the year following the ruling party's defeat in Sunday's upper house election, according to a poll done by the Nikkei business daily published Wednesday.The survey, which was conducted Monday and Tuesday, found that 14 percent want the general election 'right away' and 30 percent said 'within this year.'A total of 15 percent said they want the general election 'next spring or so' while 29 percent said 'no need to rush,' according to the poll.The survey also found that public support for the government of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe rose one percentage point from the July 19-21 poll to 28 percent but the disapproval rating soared 13 points to 63 percent, marking the first time since February 2001 that a cabinet's disapproval rating has topped 60 percent.(1 US dollar = 118.65 yen)yasuhiko.seki@thomson.comyas/msCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
