KUALA LUMPUR (Thomson Financial) - Malaysia's broad money supply, as measured by M3, expanded at a faster pace of 12.3 percent in September compared to 11.8 percent in the previous month, the central bank said.'Higher claims on the private sector arising from the increase in loans and higher holdings of private debt securities by the banks contributed significantly to M3 expansion,' the central bank said in a statement late Wednesday.Net foreign assets of the banking system were higher during the month, while net claims on the government declined as proceeds from the issuance of Malaysian government securities were placed with the central bank, it said.Narrow money, or M2, rose 18.5 percent in September, outpacing the 17.8 percent growth inAugust. The increase was due to higher placements of demand deposits and currency in circulation, the central bank said.aipeng.soo@thomson.comas/msCOPYRIGHTCopyright Thomson Financial News Limited 2007.
