TOKYO (XFN-ASIA) - Sony Corp plans to make its game division profitable in the fiscal year ending March 2008 by reducing the cost of its PlayStation 3 (PS3) game console, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported. The newspaper quoted Sony chief Financial Officer Nobuyuki Oneda as saying the game division was expected to chalk up a loss of more than 200 bln yen in the fiscal year ending this March.'Because the game business is based on volume sales of a few models of machines, earnings will improve rapidly as costs are cut and sales increased,' the Nikkei quoted Oneda as saying in an interview.Oneda was quoted as saying that the manufacturing cost of the PS3 is falling as planned, that he is expecting fewer defects in semiconductors and that the number of parts that go into the finished product will be reduced.(1 usd = 120.70 yen)yasuhiko.seki@xfn.com
