PARIS (AFX) - Euronext NV, the financial markets operator scheduled to merge with NYSE Group Inc, said its cash markets had their busiest ever month last month, with the number of transactions leaping 24.1 pct year-on-year to 23.1 mln, topping the previous record of 22.1 mln deals in May 2006.'This represents a record daily average of more than 1 mln transactions, up 21.8 pct on the 2006 daily average of 861,000,' the operator of the Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels and Lisbon stock exchanges announced.The Euronext.liffe derivatives market traded 64.3 mln futures and options contracts in January, up 13 pct from the same month last year.Interest rate and commodity products achieved record January volume with interest rate products turning over 37.8 mln contracts, up 24 pct year-on-year, and commodity products a record 808,000 contracts, up 16 pct.On Jan 11, the exchange had its busiest day ever with a record daily volume of 5.7 mln futures and options contracts, topping the previous peak of 5.1 mln in July 2005, Euronext said.Andrew.Newby@Thomson.comanCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2006.
