French Jan new car registrations up 1.8 pct, but Renault, Peugeot decline

PARIS (AFX) - French new car registrations rose a seasonally-adjusted 1.8 pct in January from the same month last year, the CCFA manufacturers' association said.

Registrations of Renault SA cars fell 7.0 pct, while Peugeot's registrations were down 3.3 pct.

France's two leading automakers are still seeing sales declines, largely because of the absence of new model launches. In 2006, Renault's registrations dropped 8.1 pct and Peugeot saw a 3.09 pct fall.

Registrations of foreign brands rose 9.1 pct in January.
