FRAMINGHAM, Mass. (AFX) - TJX Cos., operator of Marshalls, T.J. Maxx and other discount stores, said same-store sales grew 4 percent in January.Same-store sales, or sales in stores open at least one year, are a key measure of industry performance.For the four-week period ended Jan. 27, total sales grew 8 percent to $1 billion.Analysts polled by Thomson Financial expected same-store sales growth of 3.8 percent.For the 52-week period ended Jan. 27, sales grew 9 percent to $17.4 billion, while analysts expected revenue of $17.49 billion.Same-store sales grew 5 percent in the fourth quarter and 4 percent for the year, TJX said.Copyright 2006 Associated Press.
