TORRANCE, Calif. (AFX) - Toyota Motor Sales USA said Thursday its U.S. auto sales grew on stronger demand for both its Lexus and Toyota brands.The Japan-based automaker said it sold a total of 175,850 vehicles, up 9.5 percent from 160,625 in January 2006.Toyota-brand sales rose to 153,732 from 140,967, aided by gains for its Camry passenger car line.Lexus-brand sales grew to 22,118 from 19,658, as passenger sales growth offset weakening light truck sales. Lexus passenger car sales rose to 13,574 from 10,979, while its light truck sales declined to 8,544 from 8,679.Adjusted for one more selling day in this year's January compared with January 2006, Toyota's overall sales rose 5.1 percent.Toyota shares rose $1.03 to $132.81 in afternoon trading on the New York Stock Exchange.Copyright 2006 Associated Press.
