TORRANCE, Calif. (AFX) - American Honda Motor Co. on Thursday said U.S. auto sales edged up in January as higher truck sales offset a steep drop-off in car sales, lead by weak demand for Honda Civics.Honda sold 100,790 vehicles last month, up 2.4 percent from 98,394 in January 2006.Total car sales fell 7 percent to 53,412 as stronger demand for Accord sedans offset a drop in sales of Civic model sedans. Truck sales climbed to 47,378 -- up 15.7 percent from the prior-year period with help from more robust sales of CR-V sport utility vehicles.Honda division sales rose overall to 87,773 from 84,413. At the auto maker's luxury Acura division, sales slipped to 13,017 from 13,981.Adjusting for one extra selling day in January 2007, total Honda sales slipped 1.7 percent year-over-year.Copyright 2006 Associated Press.
