WASHINGTON (AP) - The U.S. Air Force on Wednesday said it awarded a $7 million contract to a unit of Raytheon Co. for additional work to prevent an interruption of services between contracts.Wichita, Kan.-based Raytheon Aircraft Co. will provide additional engineering services to bridge the gap between the end of a previous aircraft-training system production contract and the beginning of the new one.'Interruptions in program support would result in the aircraft being 'not mission capable' and therefore hinder student pilot training at both the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy user's main operating bases,' the Air Force said. The company will complete the work by June 2008.Shares of Raytheon gained 53 cents to close at $53.55 on the New York Stock Exchange.Copyright 2007 Associated Press.
