PARIS (AFX) - TF1 has lost its Sunday football league broadcasting rights to France 2 after the French professional football league, LPF, accepted a higher offer from the state-owned channel for the 2007-2008 season. In a statement on Friday, LFP said France 2's bid for the broadcasting rights for leagues 1 and 2 'was better both on a qualitative and financial level' and that the channel had offered substantially more than the current contract price.A source close to the matter told the news agency Agence France-Presse that France 2 has offered to pay 24.5 mln eur per year for the rights, or 35 pct more than the current price.TF1 has been broadcasting its Sunday league programme, Telefoot, since 1977.On Friday, the privately-owned channel said it will continue to broadcast Telefoot on Sundays, but that as of July, the content will be focused on the French national football team and preparations for Euro 2008, the Champions League and European Championships.vicky.buffery@thomson.comafp/vb/wjCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
