WASHINGTON (AP) - Wachovia Corp. won federal approval to open a new bank branch, the Treasury Department's Office of the Comptroller of the Currency said.The OCC said in a weekly bulletin of regulatory activity, released Thursday, that Charlotte, N.C.-based Wachovia's request to open the new branch was approved May 23.The branch will be located in New York City.The agency also said it received five applications from Wachovia May 17 and May 18 to open branches in Bedford, Texas; Forth Worth, Texas; Pinehurst, N.C.; Winter Garden, Fla.; and Rollingwood, Texas.Shares of Wachovia dropped 36 cents to close at $54.19 Thursday.Copyright 2007 Associated Press.
