BEIJING (XFN-ASIA) - China has made progress on environmental awareness, but it needs to do more on energy efficiency, EU ambassador to China, Serge Abou, said.Speaking in Beijing, Abou said the EU is disappointed by China's failure to meet last year's goals for reducing energy intensity per unit of GDP by four pct. That is the annual target set under the country's 11th five-year plan, which runs to 2010.Georges Papageordiou, minister councillor of Science and Technology also noted that the EU had concerns about the ability of local government's to invest in alternative energy sources. He said grid-connection technology and unified industry standards would accelerate development of the alternative energy sector.'If it (grid-connection) doesn't happen, (then) prospects for the development of alternative energy will be low,' he said.sean.mangieri@xfn.com
