Greek shares close higher, on back of other European markets |

ATHENS (AFX) - Shares closed higher in the Greek market, matching the sentiment of the European markets. Trading remained relatively high even as opposition political party PASOK tabled a no confidence vote in Greek Parliament for the current government and called for early elections.The ASE general index closed up 0.5 pct at 4,779.71 points while blue chips gained 0.5 pct as well, closing at 2,599.0 points. Mid caps rose 0.9 pct to 5,711.78 and small caps ended down 0.2 pct at 925.6 points.Advancers outnumbered decliners 128 to 129 with 64 unchanged, in higher than average volume of about 432 mln eur. It was the markets sixth consecutive week on the rise.Viohalco ended up 3.5 pct at 10.16 eur resulting from continued speculation of foreign involvement in its subsidiaries.Betting technology Intralot was down 2.0 pct to 26.26 eur, even though reports were released countering rumours that Turkish joint-venture Inteltek had lost its gaming license.Greek Postal Savings Bank was up 7.4 pct to 20.90 eur following an overweight rating in an initial report released by Morgan Stanley.newsdesk@afxnews.comcn/cmr/gpCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2006.
