PARIS (AFX) - JCDecaux SA said it will fully honour the commitments made as part of its winning bid to manage outdoor advertising for the city of Paris, which also calls for setting up and operating a fleet of rental bicycles.Yesterday, Clear Channel, the only other company bidding for the contract, claimed that JCDecaux gave unrealistic pledges in terms of how many bikes will be delivered.JCDecaux won the contract after promising the city 3.5 mln eur each year for the rights to manage the advertising on bus shelters and other outdoor supports, while supplying 20,600 bikes and 1,451 rental stations by the end of 2007.It also said it would have 14,100 bikes and 1,000 rental stations available for rental by mid-July, but Clear Channel said that this is not possible, since the city's electricity network operator has said that only 270 stations can be connected by then.JCDecaux, which won the contract through its Somupi joint venture with Publicis, said it has taken 'all possible steps to ensure that it can deliver the proposed bicycles and stations on the dates announced.''Its schedule has employed realistic criteria in terms of the manufacture and installation of furniture and bicycles from the viewpoint of its successful experiences in France and abroad,' it added.paris@afxnews.comjs/gpCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2006.
