HELSINKI (AFX) - Russia's United Power is preparing to lodge a fresh application for an undersea electricity cable between Russia and Finland after having an earlier proposal rejected, business daily Kauppalehti reported citing the company. The company, controlled by Russian state-owned nuclear power group Rosenergoatom, may ask the government for permission to lay an undersea cable with a capacity of up to 450 MW.An application for a 1,000 MW cable was turned down by Finland late last year on the grounds that it would undermine the country's plans to become more energy self-sufficient.'An approximate 250-450 MW cable from Russia to Finland would, as far as I understand, fit within the requirements that the ministry has proposed,' Kauppalehti quoted United Power head Andras Szep as saying.United Power is also mulling an alternative plan for a land electricity cable that would run between Vyborg and Lappeenranta, the paper said.james.etheridge@afxnews.comje/lamCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
