Irish unemployment rate rises to 4.3 pct in February |

DUBLIN (AFX) - Ireland's unemployment rate increased to 4.3 pct in February from 4.2 percent in January, according to revised figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO).A CSO spokesman said it had revised the January unemployment figure down to 4.2 pct from the previous estimate of 4.5 pct.The number of people signing on for benefits on the state's Live Register in February increased by 647 compared with January, the CSO said. This brought the total number signing on to 159,399.The number signing on fell by 218 in February compared with the same month in 2006.On a seasonally adjusted basis, the number signing on increased by 1,500 during the month.On an annual basis, the seasonally adjusted figure dropped by 100, the CSO added.The Live Register is not designed to be a fully accurate measure of unemployment as it includes part-time workers and casual staff entitled to benefits.newsdesk@afxnews.comafp/ms1COPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
