BEIJING (XFN-ASIA) - The purchasing manager's index (PMI) for the manufacturing sector rose to 56.1 points in March from 53.1 in February, the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing (CFLP) said.A reading above 50 indicates growth in purchasing while a reading below 50 represents a contraction.In a statement on its website, it said the production index was 60.7 in March, up from 56.6 in February.The new orders index rose to 60.8 in March, against 57.1 in February.The export orders index was at 61.5 in March, up from 51.6 in February.The inventory of finished goods index was at 45.8 against 44 in February.The input price index rose by 2.4 point to 58.3, reflecting an uptrend in resource prices, the CFLP said.China first reported PMI data in June 2005.
