BEIJING (XFN-ASIA) - China Eastern Airlines, one of the country's three largest carriers, is seeking to join the oneworld alliance, whose current members include American Airlines, British Airways, Qantas and Cathay Pacific, the official Shanghai Securities News reported.Theo Panagiotoulias, Asia-Pacific president of American Airlines, was quoted as saying that China Eastern Airlines has expressed interest in oneworld, but has set no timetable for joining.In addition, the newspaper cited a separate source from SkyTeam alliance member Korean Air as saying that China Eastern is a target for membership, adding that the alliance is in talks with the Chinese airline.SkyTeam has 10 member airlines, including Air France, Korean Air and Continental Airlines.An unidentified senior official with China Eastern Airlines told the paper that the airline is focusing on discussions with potential strategic investors, and a decision on the airline alliance will emerge only after they buy into the company.According to earlier media reports, the airline is talking with potential strategic investors including Singapore Airlines Ltd.zachary.wei@xfn.com
