MORTON GROVE, Ill. (AP) - Lifeway Foods Inc., which makes milk-based drinks, said Tuesday that its first-quarter revenue climbed 50 percent.The company credited the improvement to higher sales in its Lifeway kefir line, along with sales from Helios kefir and its Pride of Main Street's milk line.Total consolidated sales for the period ended March 31 rose to $9 million from $6 million in the year-ago period.Lifeway-brand kefir sales increased 28 percent to $7.7 million, while Helios saw revenue of $1.1 million. The company's Pride of Main Street fluid milk line reported first-quarter sales of about $182,000.Late Monday, Lifeway said its 2006 profit grew 14 percent to $2.9 million, or 17 cents per share.Lifeway shares closed at $9.24 on the Nasdaq Stock Market Monday.Copyright 2007 Associated Press.
