LATROBE, Pa. (AP) - The brewery that made Rolling Rock beer for decades will soon start brewing Samuel Adams.Boston Beer Co. said Tuesday it had signed an agreement with a subsidiary of City Brewing Co. to brew an unspecified amount of Samuel Adams beer at the Latrobe plant.Lacrosse, Wis.-based City Brewing bought the facility last year after its former owner, InBev USA, sold the Rolling Rock brand to Anheuser-Busch for $82 million. Anheuser-Busch, the nation's largest brewer, is now brewing Rolling Rock in Newark, N.J.Boston Beer said it plans to invest $3 million to $7 million in the facility about 35 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. The company also said it is discussing the possibility of taking an ownership stake in the plant.The brewing of Sam Adams is expected to begin during the second quarter, Boston Beer said in a statement.The company said the deal gives it more flexibility, allows it to add to its brewing capacity and provides some supply security.The brewery made Rolling Rock for more than six decades and employed generations of local workers in Latrobe before it closed in July.City Brewing is a contract packager of beer, flavored malt beverages, teas, energy drinks, juices and carbonated soft drinks. It also markets beer under regional brands, including La Crosse.City Brewing has been upgrading the brewery with an eye toward reopening by summer.
