LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Oncology drug development company YM BioSciences Inc said the phase IIb trial of its pain-relief drug AeroLEF has met its primary endpoint, showing a significant effect in pain relief and pain intensity in patients with post-operative pain following orthopaedic surgery. In the randomized, placebo-controlled trial the drug showed a statistically significant difference from the placebo, the firm said. The trial also examined a number of secondary endpoints including various measurements of pain relief, pain intensity, and onset and duration of analgesia.Chairman and CEO David Allan said that the results from these would be used to enhance the design of the additional phase II trial being planned for the US and the eventual phase III trial.AeroLEF is an inhaled self-titrated drug for the treatment of moderate to severe pain, including cancer pain.tf.TFN-Europe_newsdesk@thomson.comnpr/roCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
