BASF expands capacity for Oppanol ahead of schedule |

FRANKFURT (Thomson Financial) - BASF AG said it has expanded capacity of medium molecular weight polyisobutene (MM PIB) at its Ludwigshafen site ahead of schedule.Annual capacity of the product - which is marketed under the Oppanol trademark - has increased by 6,000 metric tonnes, raising BASF's total MM PIB capacity to 18,000 metric tonnes per year, said the company in a statement.'By investing in this additional capacity, we can respond to the increasing worldwide demand for Oppanol, and support the dynamic development of the market for MM PIB,' said Hartmann Leube, head of strategic marketing at BASF's Performance Chemicals for Automotive and Refinery Industry unit.He added that the company plans to develop new applications for Oppanol with its partners in various industries.krysia.diver@thomson.comkd/sljCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
