BEIJING (XFN-ASIA) - The China Paper Association said it wants the United States to scrap its anti-subsidy tariffs on Chinese paper, criticizing the move as a violation of free trade.Last Friday, the US Commerce Department imposed an average tariff of 18 pct on imports of coated paper from China, in retaliation for state export subsidies to Chinese paper makers.'We hope the U.S. side will abandon its discriminatory policy against the Chinese paper industry, reconsider the decision and correct it as soon as possible,' the paper association said in a statement. The decision of Washington 'was a protectionist practice and runs counter to the principle of free trade,' it added.Meanwhile China's Ministry of Commerce is also calling the duties unacceptable and hinted that the dispute could escalate.kelly.zang@xfn.com
