HELSINKI (AFX) - Nokia Siemens Networks said it has won a full core network hosting contract from Blyk, an advertising-funded mobile network that will launch initially in the UK in mid-2007 ahead of a wider European rollout. No financial details were disclosed. The deal was secured by Nokia prior to the formal launch of its telecoms equipment joint venture with Siemens at the weekend.Nokia Siemens Networks will host Blyk's core network and mobile softswitching technology in a 'mobile virtual network operator' (MVNO) arrangement that enables Blyk to avoid having to make large infrastructure investments of its own.Blyk was set up last year by two Finns, one of whom is Pekka Ala-Pietila, the former president of Nokia.james.etheridge@thomson.comje/cmlCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
