SEATTLE (AP) - Alaska Air Group Inc. on Wednesday said traffic edged up a half percent in March at its primary carrier, Alaska Airlines.Alaska Airlines posted 1.532 billion revenue passenger miles, up from 1.525 billion in the same month a year ago. A revenue passenger mile is equal to one paying passenger flown one mile.Capacity increased to 1.99 billion available seat miles, up 2.3 percent from 1.95 billion in March 2006. Load factor, or occupancy, dipped to 76.8 percent from 78.2 percent.At Horizon Air, traffic slipped 0.3 percent to 233.6 million revenue passenger miles. Capacity grew 6.3 percent at the same time to 329 million available seat miles. Load factor fell to 71 percent from 75.6 percent.So far this year, passenger traffic for Alaska Airlines has fallen 0.3 percent, while traffic has risen 1.1 percent at Horizon Air. Capacity rose 2.8 percent and 5.4 percent at Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air, respectively.Occupancy on Alaska Airlines flights was 71.4 percent in the first three months of the year, compared with 73.7 percent a year ago. At Horizon Air, occupancy fell to 67.8 percent from 70.7 percent.Alaska Air shares fell 33 cents to $38.03 in morning trading on the New York Stock Exchange.Copyright 2007 Associated Press.
