Home movers take a note! A new survey suggests that many home movers are not bothered at all or have forgotten to remove home contents insurance before shifting to their new address.
This may cost them dearly, says Tesco Personal Finance, who conducted the survey. In the sense, during transit many goods are lost or damaged, which if insured, can save home movers from various headaches.
| The survey stated that home insurance was perched at the bottom of the home mover’s priority list. Since two in every three home movers was not covered before shifting to a new place and more than half admitted taking cover after a month they have moved. It was also noted that one in ten people were not covered even after six months of moving.
Tesco Personal Finance survey was also able to gauge people's attitudes at the time of shifting. Nineteen per cent said they packed most of the goods on the day of moving, which lead to 22 per cent of lost or damaged possessions. From this, 18 per cent said it was worth £500, while a quarter said it was worth £1,500. The figures itself indicate that moving can be costly affair if it’s not properly covered.
As far as the big moves are concerned, the survey said, 82 per cent of the people reported they do not take the help of removals company, instead do it themselves with the help of their family and friends. Shockingly, 71 per cent said they were unaware whether their goods were insured during shifting.
So next time before moving make sure you have insurance cover. Otherwise it could end up costing you a bomb.
