Australia Dec retail sales rise 0.3 pct vs Nov |

SYDNEY (XFN-ASIA) - Retail sales in December rose a seasonally adjusted 0.3 pct from November to 18.445 bln aud, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said.The increase was below the market consensus forecast for a 0.5 pct rise and followed a 0.2 pct gainin retail sales in November from October.Compared to a year earlier, retail sales were 6.3 pct higher in December.Recreational goods had the highest increase in December, up 1.5 pct, while department store sales rose 0.6 pct, food retail sales gained 0.5 pct, clothing and soft goods sales rose 0.4 pct and other retail sales increased 0.3 pct.However, hospitality and services sales fell 0.5 pct and household good retail sales slipped 0.1 pct.(1 usd = 1.29 aud)paul.daniel@xfn.compd/mas
