NEW YORK (AP) - Toyota Motor Corp.'s Lexus LS 460 on Thursday was named the 2007 World Car of the Year by a panel of 44 automotive journalists from around the world.

The LS 460 beat out fellow finalists the Audi TT and MINI for the annual honor, which was announced at an awards breakfast at the New York International Auto Show.

The LS 460 features the world's first automatic parking system, along with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Safety features include forward radar designed to help drivers avoid collisions.

The LS 600h version includes a V-8 hybrid engine and LED headlamps, while an executive seating package is available with the LS 460L version. The package has a right rear seat that reclines 45 degrees and comes with an ottoman leg rest, along with other comforts such as a seat massager, sunshades, video screen and a refrigerator for drinks.

The panel also handed out three specialty awards. The Audi RS4 was named as the top performance car, boasting 420 horsepower, a 4.2 liter V-8 engine and acceleration from zero to 60 miles-per-hour in 4.8 seconds.

The Mercedes-Benz E320 Bluetec received the award for top green car. The E320, touted as the world's cleanest diesel, features a nitrogen oxide exhaust after-treatment system designed to reduce emissions.

And the Audi TT was named as the best designed. The TT's exterior includes flared wheel arches, along with Audi's signature grille and a sleek shape. Interior features include a driver-focused cabin with a flat-bottomed steering wheel, chrome trim and dual temperature controls.

Toyota American Depositary Shares fell 97 cents to $126.77 in afternoon trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
