WASHINGTON (Thomson Financial) - Newspaper headlines 'missed the point,' US Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson said today, when they complained the Strategic Economic Dialogue with China failed to are solve major issues.'Speaking to a Heritage Foundation forum on China here, Paulson said the SED is about long-term results and that's 'difficult in a town where short-termism is the order of the day.'To get results he said, 'we must build relationships and take smaller, deliberate steps forward to create momentum for greater change.'The level of mutual mistrust between Beijing and Washington has been rising, Paulson acknowledged. But the Treasury Secretary cited, as he has before, progress on aviation, energy, environment and financial markets made at the SED talks in Washington last month. The next meeting is scheduled for December and Paulson repeated his warnings to the Chinese that 'Americans are impatient' and the biggest risk China faces is 'moving too slowly.'dennis.moore@thomson.comdem/wash/rarCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
