MILAN (Thomson Financial) - Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena SpA unit Banca Toscana said its first half net profit rose 38.9 pct to 74 mln eur, supported by higher lending and lower write-downs on loans.Lending to customers rose 11.1 pct to 14.9 bln eur, mainly from expansion of mortgage and current account loans, the bank said.Total revenues were 405 mln eur, it said, without giving a comparative.Write-downs on loans in the first half were 30 mln eur, down 39.7 pct from the first half of 2006, it said.Operating costs were up 0.8 pct to 249 mln eur, including a fall in personnel costs of 1.7 pct to 145 mln, it said.nigel.tutt@thomson.comnt/jfrCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
