(updates with report Tiscali poised to launch UK internet TV service)MILAN (AFX) - BT Group PLC and the Italian telecommunications group Wind may be eyeing a joint bid to take over Tiscali SpA, the daily Il Sole 24 Ore said without giving a source.According to the daily, Merrill Lynch's head for Italy, Maurizio Tamagnini, met over the weekend with Wind's financial director Luigi Gubitosi to discuss Tiscali.Merrill Lynch is already working for BT, which is interested in Tiscali's UK business, it said.If a deal is struck, Wind could take over Tiscali's Italian business, it added.Meanwhile, the Financial Times reported that Tiscali will launch its UK-based Tiscali TV internet television service in March.The launch will follow the rebranding of cable group NTL as Virgin Media this week, while BT is also planning a marketing push for BT Vision, which was launched at the end of last year.philip.webster@thomson.compw/ic/jmsCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2006.
