Pa. utility customers set winter record |

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AFX) - PPL Electric Utilities Corp. said customers set a winter electricity use record as a cold snap chilled central and eastern Pennsylvania.The PPL Corp. subsidiary, which delivers electricity to about 1.4 million customers in the state, said customers used 7,318 megawatts between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. Monday. The previous hourly winter peak was 7,274 megawatts on Dec. 20, 2004, the company said.High electricity use was expected to continue Tuesday as highs in the teens and lows in the single digits gripped the region, the company said.Copyright 2006 Associated Press.
