Sanofi-Aventis announces promotions

NEW YORK (AFX) - Paris-based drug developer Sanofi-Aventis said Tuesday it appointed Tim Rothwell chairman of its U.S. pharmaceutical activities group.

Rothwell takes direct responsibility for communications and government policy. Greg Irace, who had been chief financial officer and senior vice president of finance and administration will succeed Rothwell as president and chief executive of the U.S. pharmaceutical operations division.

Shares of Sanofi-Aventis fell 17 cents to $44.04 on the New York Stock Exchange in morning trading.
