ATHENS (AFX) - Marfin Popular Bank acquired a 7.66 pct stake in the Bank of Cyprus from the Bank of Piraeus, which was formerly its largest shareholder with an 8.2 pct stake, sources close to the matter said to AFX News.The sources added that the 7.66 pct stake was acquired in one single block trade on the Athens Stock Exchange.A total of 42.4 mln shares were transferred at 11.24 eur per share, which is 7.05 pct higher than yesterday's closing price, the sources noted.Market sources had earlier told AFX News that discussions were taking place between Marfin and Bank of Piraeus in an amicable spirit and the sale of the share stake was part of negotiations.Source: Euro2day.gr NewsWireskrekas@euro2day.grns/jsaCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
