BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Louisiana's insurance chief has ordered Allstate Insurance Co. to stop using a 'drive-by' inspection process that has led to the cancellation of 4,700 homeowners policies in areas hit by Hurricane Katrina.Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon said Allstate could face fines if it fails to comply with the order and reinstate homeowners whose policies were dropped because of the inspections.Donelon said his office has received nearly 500 complaints from homeowners who said Allstate canceled their coverage because inspectors wrongly concluded their properties had been abandoned.A spokeswoman for Allstate did not immediately return a call for comment. The complaints came from homeowners in Jefferson, Orleans, Plaquemines and St. Bernard parishes.Copyright 2007 Associated Press.
