EADS (European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company), the parent of passenger jet company Airbus has given a go-ahead for the launching of A350 model. This medium-sized airplane is all set to compete with Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner. According to some experts, both Dreamliner and A350 have a lot in common than would be admitted by both the companies.

This plane will be launched without taking aid from France, Spain, Germany and the UK. This is to prevent any dispute between US and EU over subsidies to airline industry in both the regions. EADS issued a statement saying, “Airbus, EADS and BAE Systems have decided that no disbursement should take place throughout 2006 as long as there is a credible prospect of negotiations, and similar restraint is being undertaken in the United States.” Airbus did not accept $1.9 billion for the same reason reportedly. However, Airbus did not rule out the possibility of accepting aid in the future.

The A350 is a twin-engine plane unlike its predecessors A340-300 which had four engines. The A350’s wings will be made from ultra-hard composite material. Its body will be made from an alloy of aluminium-lithium. The engine will be supplied by General Electric Co and Rolls Royce Plc.

The A350 will have the ability to fly up to 8,800 nautical miles. It will come out with two models, one seating 253 passengers and the larger version seating 300. Its engines will be quieter compared to today's planes. A350 will also use lesser fuel than usual.

The A350 plane is expecting to obtain around 200 orders by this year-end. Airbus sees 'extremely positive market response' to A350. There have reportedly been 140 commitments from nine existing Airbus customers.

Eads has 80 percent stake in Airbus while the remainder 20 percent is owned by BAE Systems PLC.
