Next time you’re invited for a wedding make sure to drop an envelope containing hard cash as new research shows that people getting married prefer money to other traditional goods such as dinner sets, white goods…
The research also noted that many couples are open to the idea of receiving vouchers, but money still remains on top of the list.
| Apart from money and vouchers, the newly-wed couple also ask for contributions towards short trip holidays or adventure experiences like river rafting, jungle safari, and hot air ballooning. But the most surprising gift that most of the couples of late have started asking invitees is to pay for the planting of a new tree.
The insurance firm, Direct Line insurance, behind the study, said the royal wedding of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles prompted it to come out with the study, but they were clueless as to what the royal couple’s gift will be and how much their gifts will amount to.
But said those couples getting married this year, on an average are likely to receive around £2,059 worth of gifts per couple.
The research also found that only three per cent of the people ask for kitchen equipments, while the newly married couples start their married life with two sets. The reason for people asking traditional goods, the research says, is because older couples are preparing for their first marriage and not their second.
It is interesting to note that 20 years back white goods topped the wedding present lists, the research said.
