Iris files for FDA prostate test OK |

CHATSWORTH, Calif. (AFX) - Medical test company Iris International Inc. said Wednesday that its Iris Molecular Diagnostics unit filed for Food and Drug Administration clearance for a more sensitive prostate cancer test.The company applied for marketing clearance for its Prostate-Specific Antigen test with Nucleic Acid Detection Immuno Assay technology. Prostate-Specific Antigen is a protein that is made by the prostate gland in small amounts except when cancer or some other disorder is present.Iris said the test is capable of detecting the protein with improved sensitivity at low concentrations.The company hopes to launch the product by the end of 2007 pending clearance.Iris shares fell 17 cents to close at $12.12 on the Nasdaq.Copyright 2006 Associated Press.
