TOKYO (XFN-ASIA) - Chugai Pharmaceutical Co Ltd has decided not to co-promote with F Hoffmann-La Roche their rheumatoid arthritis treatment Actemra in the US, Italy and Spain, but they will co-promote the treatment in France, Germany and the UK, Chugai said.

Chugai said in a written statement that it had its own marketing infrastructure in France, Germany and the UK, and that the two companies had together started to establish the necessary organization and to plan marketing and promotion strategies. The two companies will share the profits from the treatment in these countries according to the contribution each makes to the co-promotion effort.

Chugai has decided not to co-promote Actemra in the US, Italy and Spain in view of its mid-term strategy for business overseas, it said.

The two companies have been jointly developing Actemra, and phase three clinical trial programs are going on in over 40 countries. F Hoffmann-La Roche plans to ask for approval for the treatment in Europe and in the US in the second half of this year, Chugai said.
