BRUSSELS (Thomson Financial) - German Finance Minister Peer Steinbrueck, whose country holds the EU presidency, reiterated that the European Central Bank is 'an independent organ'.Asked about French president-elect Nicolas Sarkozy's criticisms of the bank's monetary policy, he said: 'I'm not an expert on French internal politics', but added: 'I don't think we should put restrictions on the ECB; it's an independent organ.'Steinbrueck was speaking to reporters as he entered the monthly meeting of euro zone finance ministers, which he will chair, as its permanent president, Jean-Claude Juncker, is ill.victoria.main@thomson.comvm/cmrCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
