ABBOTT PARK, Illinois (Thomson Financial) - Abbott Laboratories Inc said it has submitted applications to US and EU regulators seeking approval to market its anti-inflammatory drug Humira as a treatment for juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.Abbott said the the filings marks the first pediatric indication sought for Humira.Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, which is known juvenile idiopathic arthritis in Europe, is the most common form of arthritis in children and normally begins before the age of 16, Abbott said.Depending on the severity of disease, it may affect bone development or cause growth abnormalities, such as one leg or arm growing longer than the other.Humira has already been approved to treat adults with moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis.tf.TFN-Europe_newsdesk@thomson.comwjCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
