Abbott seeks additional Humira approval |

NORTH CHICAGO, Ill. (AP) - Abbott Laboratories said Monday it asked the Food and Drug Administration to give additional approval to its drug Humira as a treatment for juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.In addition, the company is seeking European Union approval of Humira for juvenile idiopathic arthritis, the most common form of arthritis in children. The drug is already approved to treat rheumatoid arthritis in adults as well as psoriatic arthritis.It is also being studied as a possible treatment for Crohn's disease approvedDuring the first quarter, Humira sales reached $571 million and Abbott expects the drug to exceed $2.7 billion in sales in 2007.Shares of Abbott rose 70 cents to $59 in premarket trading.Copyright 2007 Associated Press.
