(Adds background)LONDON (Thomson Financial) - DSG International PLC, the electricals retailer formerly known as Dixons, has named John Browett as its new chief executive, replacing John Clare who has announced his intention to retire on Sept 5.Browett is currently operations development director at Tesco. On May 31, DSG insisted that the surprise early retirement of Clare had 'nothing to do' with the recent under-performance of its troubled Italian retailing arm or the board's reluctance to unlock value through a sale or de-merger of its PC World computer retailing business.Clare has been with the group since 1985 and became chief executive in 1994.At 9.17 am, DSG shares were up 1.21 pct to 166.90 pence.TFN.newsdesk@thomson.comkkb/ra/kkb/tsm/slmCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
