(Updating to add breakdown of figures)LONDON (AFX) - Construction orders in the UK fell by 3 pct in the fourth quarter from the third and were unchanged on the same quarter in 2005, government figures showed today.The Department of Trade and Industry said falls in public housing and private commercial orders over the quarter more than offset increases in private housing, infrastructure and private industrial orders.Over 2006 as a whole, however, construction orders were up 6 pct from 2005, the figures showed.The breakdown of the figures showed that private commercial orders fell by 12 pct over the fourth quarter from the third, while public housing orders slumped by 31 pct.Private housing orders rose by 13 pct over the period, infrastructure orders were 4 pct higher, while private industrial orders edged up by 1 pct.
