NEW YORK (AFX) - Pfizer Inc said an analysis in today's issue of Circulation showed patients with coronary heart disease who took its Lipitor (atorvastatin calcium) 80 milligramme tablets cut their risk of hospitalization for heart failure significantly compared with patients taking the 10 mg dose of Lipitor.Patients with heart disease who took Lipitor 80 mg dose cut their risk of hospitalization for heart failure by 26 pct. Those with a history of heart failure cut their risk of hospitalization by 41 pct.The analysis was of a subset of patients from the five-year TNT (Treating to New Targets) study.Heart failure is the leading cause of hospitalization for adults over 65 in the US and the estimated total cost of heart failure in 2007 in the US is 33.2 bln usd.newsdesk@afxnews.comjsaCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2006.
