BENTONVILLE, Ark. (AP) - Wal-Mart Stores Inc., the world's largest retailer, on Thursday said U.S. same-store sales edged up 0.9 percent in February.Same-store sales, or sales in stores open at least one year, are a key measure of retail industry performance.Analysts polled by Thomson Financial expected a 1.5 percent same-store sales rise. In the year-ago period, the company reported a 3.2 percent same-store sales gain.Same-store sales grew 0.4 percent at Wal-Mart Stores and 3.9 percent in Sam's Club stores.Total sales for the four-week period ending March 2 rose 8.1 percent to $26.79 billion, from $24.78 billion a year ago.Sales rose 5.6 percent to $17.57 billion at Wal-Mart Stores, gained 4.2 percent to $3.16 billion at Sam's Club stores and jumped 18.7 percent to $6.06 billion at international stores.International sales includes a 4.1 percentage point gain from consolidating Wal-Mart Central America.Wal-Mart said it expects same-store sales in the U.S. in March to rise between 1 percent and 2 percent.Copyright 2007 Associated Press.
