MADRID (AFX) - Spanish energy sector watchdog CNE could publish its new list of main energy sector operators this month, a CNE spokesman said. The list of main operators for 2006 -- which remains effective until the new one is released, usually in February or March -- includes Enel Viesgo, one of the top five in terms of sales in Spain. The list is reviewed annually and Viesgo may not be included this time.'It is the CNE which approves the list of main operators, not the government... The CNE draws up the list based exclusively on sales figures,' the spokesman noted. 'The decision is not an arbitrary one... nor is it arbitrarily taken.'This morning's El Confidencial said the CNE will remove Viesgo from the list of main operators in Spain's electricity market, allowing the Italian utility to exercise full voting rights in Endesa SA, in which it has a 22 pct stake.Last week, Enel said it asked the CNE to approve its request to have full voting rights corresponding to its stake in Endesa. As a Viesgo shareholder, its rights are currently capped at 3 pct while Viesgo remains one of the main electricity sector operators. The CNE spokesman said the petition is still being studied by the CNE and a decision could take around three months, taking into account the time the watchdog took to give its ruling on ACS's voting rights in Iberdrola SA.The CNE has a maximum of four months to make its decision.tfn.europemadrid@thomson.comcl/tg/jdy/jdy/ms1COPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
