SEOUL (XFN-ASIA) - South Korea's plant exports in the first quarter to March surged 43 pct to 8.98 bln, driven by the Middle East construction boom, data show.Orders from the Middle East, mainly for building petrochemical plants, power stations and desalinationl facilities, rose threefold year-on-year to 5.41 bln usd, 60 percent of the total, according to the government data carried by Yonhap news agency.South Korea secured orders worth 1.75 bln usd from Europe, 1.12 bln usd from Asia, 517 mln from the Americas and 180 mln from Africa during the first quarter.South Korean builders clinched overseas plant orders worth 25.4 bln usd in 2006, up 60.6 pct from the previous year, according to the figures.afp
