Indonesia's Medco, Japan's Kyushu to jointly explore power sector opportunities |

JAKARTA (XFN-ASIA) - PT Medco Energi Internasional said its units PT Medco Power Indonesia and PT Medco Geothermal Indonesia have entered into an agreement with Japan's Kyushu Electric Power to jointly develop power business and other energy related projects in Indonesia and other countries.'The intent of the agreement is to provide platform for collaboration in the future for power business,' Medco said.'However, if there are any additional new liquid natural gas (LNG) or new coal projects, Kyushu Electric Power may want to jointly develop the opportunity with Medco Energi, which will have to be agreed by both parties as well,' Medco Power president Fazil E Alfitri said.Kyushu said the agreement 'will surely give momentum to develop more projects and business related to electric energy services in Indonesia.'Medco Power is currently operating two gas-fired power plants with combined capacity of 140 megawatt (MW) in Batam and has an operations and maintenance service contract for the 1,320 MW Tanjung Jati B coal-fired power plant.(1 usd = 8,875 rupiah)roffie.kurniawan@xinhuafinance.com
